President Benigno Aquino III had already signed Proclamation 234, declaring Tuesday, Aug 30, 2011 a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadan).
As stated in Proclamation 234, it is:
" - to promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr"
" - in order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Tuesday, 30 August 2011, as a regular holiday throughout the country."
Working on Holidays
The existing labor law requires the corresponding compensation will be given to employees who are required to work on the Regular Holidays.
August Long Weekend
With the declaration of holiday on August 30, 2011, a long weekend will be observed on the last week of Augustt 2011 because on Monday, August 29, 2011 is also a regular holiday in observance of the national Heroes Day.
